While Dawn of War II isn't scheduled to release until February 19, Relic producer Mark Noseworthy has revealed that the highly-anticipated real-time strategy game has already received a day-zero patch.
"We've already patched the Beta based on internal THQ developer feedback a week before it has even gone live to the public," wrote Noseworthy on the game's community web site.
While the game is scheduled to ship with five available multiplayer maps, Noseworthy revealed that Dawn of War II would receive two additional multiplayer maps within the first week of the game's release. The game producer also stated that free and premium downloadable content, by means of Games for Windows – LIVE Marketplace, would eventually make their way to Dawn of War II. According to Noseworthy, the game may get additional DLC within the first few weeks of release.
I would tend to disagree. From a business standpoint, it's not good to irritate your customers like that. Most likely, after playing the game seriously for a bit now, they decided it was incomplete. Even with the patch/update 7 maps is pretty weak. I would have expected at least a dozen. But, there may be some merit to the suggestion of charging for extra maps unfortunately. With Microsoft & Games Workshop being the major players here, it would not surprise me. I hope we are wrong on that, though. All-in-all, I am expecting a solid game. The graphics look good, I just hope the gameplay is as smooth as the original that most of us are used to. I would, however, expect future expansions adding the other races into the game. They did this with Dawn of War & I would expect it to continue. I'm sure they'll be adding things for years to come.
