This thread is inspired by Alandora and Azrile that said it's wrong that gamers say they like AoC. It is wrong that AoCplayers advice other people to take another look and it is almost wrong for someone to have a different opinion than themselves.
It is beyond me how people can put themselves on a pedestal, not having tested the game in more than 6 months, trashing an entire forum with their 20 posts a day crusade against AoC. If AoC players try to talk about patch 1.04 due this week, the Anti-AoC police will show up in less than a minute to derail the thread, if AoC players mention how much the game has improved, the Anti-AoC police will show up frenetically explaining why OP is wrong, why OP is an idiot, or why OP is a shill and so on and so on.
I want to say, I like AoC and I think I should be able to do that without getting assaulted. I advice people to have a look on this game again. It has improved a lot since August. Virtually everybody that had performance and memory leak issues should considder trying it again as virtually all performance issues are resolved. Also, all the people that felt content was a bit thin above level 40-50 should also test the game again as a ton of new quests, items, crafting receipes, new area, revamped dungeons and so on have made it into the game. Further, the people that left due to no real PvP progression system or borked Sieges mechanisms should also get back in there, because all this is very well implemented now. I am not saying everybody will like AoC, but it will do 10 times more for you trying the game by yourself than listening to the advice of other people that have not been playing for more than 6 months.
I see a great future for AoC simply because the platform, which AoC is built on, is so much more high tech and real than anything else out there. If FC just continue the way they are currently working, this game has a fantastic future. I see myself playing AoC at least for another 1/2 year just to get to the end of all content now coming out with patch 1.04.
Finally, let this thread be the thread where people liking AoC and people not liking AoC meet to discuss the game instead of derailing all other threads. Lets try to keep the rants down and get a debate going on what have been improved in AoC, what should still be improved and what aspects of AoC seem to be the factor pulling people back in.
The game is terrible
1. Raids are bugged beyond belief. The ones that work are boring tank/spank fights. Nothing has changed on this front. The big 'endgame' is stannding around chatting.
2. The pvp consequence system is terrible. Almost 75% of current subscribers said it was terrible in the recent survey. This was the biggest gameplay addition in 9 months, and it failed terribly
3. The game has 3-4 servers with populations. The rest are ghosttowns. AOC tried to launch new servers a few weeks ago, they are completely deserted and will probably be 'merged' soon. The game is less than a year old, and has lost 75% of it's servers, and another 50% of those left should be merged.
4. Worst development team. Other games are putting out patches every month. AOC has the same 'patch' lingering on it's test realm for almost 3 months now. All fans of the game can do is talk about the stuff that will be released 'soon'. The last patch that added content was months and months ago, and the content that was added was finished in a few days and then forgotten.
Don't worry, that's not ethic discrimination. You aren't a horrible person...or wait...maybe you are.
I've been playing the game with a group of 5 others (rotated between 10-11 people who sometimes can't show up every time) from another online community and the game is plenty of fun. The graphics are good, the combat is interesting, and PvP isn't so bad when you make enough friends that you can't really be griefed by random people.
Calling AoC dead is ridiculous given the populations and variety of people I've seen on the Tyranny server lately. Whether or not the game meets your 'market' expectation, the game is filled with people from a gameplay perspective, and if you are playing for the first time through then your gameplay experience is all that really matters because it enables the player to have fun.
Some people (me, pick me) are already set on long-term MMO. That doesn't stop me from playing through some of them once and enjoying the ride along the way before moving on.
